Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari announced a reduction in electricity load shedding starting tonight. He said the power situation is expected to improve soon, bringing relief to consumers facing long hours of outages across the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he apologized for public inconvenience. He said the government has always worked to reduce darkness and improve electricity supply, and efforts are continuing to stabilize the system.

He explained that the country is facing a shortfall of about 4,000 megawatts. He linked this to reduced hydropower generation and limited gas supply, which together have significantly affected overall electricity production.

In addition, he said hydropower generation has dropped by around 1,600 megawatts. He also noted that LNG supply disruptions caused a major shortage, while the Karachi Electric system is drawing record power from the national grid.

Finally, Owais Leghari said the crisis is temporary and linked to fuel and gas supply issues. He added that load shedding will ease as supplies improve, and ultimately be controlled once fuel imports stabilize, ensuring better electricity load shedding from tonight’s announced reduction in load shedding.
