US officials have informed several European allies that previously contracted weapons deliveries may face delays as the ongoing war involving Iran continues to strain American military stockpiles.

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, the delays are expected to affect several European countries, including nations in the Baltic region and Scandinavia. The affected equipment includes munitions and other military supplies ordered through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, a system under which allies purchase US-made weapons with government approval and logistical support.

Officials said the disruption reflects growing pressure on US defense inventories, which have already been heavily drawn down by multiple conflicts. The war in Iran, which escalated following US-Israeli military operations, has further increased demand for advanced missile defense systems and ammunition.

Some of the delayed systems include interceptors such as PAC-3 Patriot missiles, which are widely used for air defense and are also relied upon by countries like Ukraine to protect critical infrastructure from missile attacks.

European governments reportedly expressed concern over the delays, noting that they complicate defense planning at a time of heightened regional security tensions. Several officials said the situation is pushing some countries to reconsider reliance on US suppliers and explore greater use of European-made defense systems.

The United States has not issued an official public statement on the matter, and the Pentagon did not respond to requests for comment. However, officials familiar with the discussions said the weapons are being redirected to meet urgent operational needs in the Middle East.

The broader strain on US stockpiles predates the Iran conflict, with significant drawdowns already occurring due to military support for Ukraine following Russia’s invasion and operations in the Middle East.

Analysts say the delays highlight the interconnected nature of global arms supply chains and the increasing pressure on US defense production capacity amid multiple active geopolitical conflicts.

The affected deliveries reportedly include a range of defensive and offensive munitions, underscoring the growing competition among allies for access to limited military resources.
