Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, has announced a major development for Pakistan’s fisheries sector, confirming that the country’s seafood exports have officially gained access to the Russian market.

He stated that for the first time, Pakistan’s fish and marine food products now have a formal export pathway into Russia, with 16 Pakistani companies granted approval to begin exports. The move is being described as a significant milestone for the country’s maritime trade sector.

According to the minister, this development is expected to open doors for broader access to the Eurasian Economic Union in the future, potentially expanding Pakistan’s export reach to multiple regional markets beyond Russia.

Officials noted that efforts are underway to upgrade quality standards in the seafood industry to meet international requirements, which is expected to result in a substantial increase in annual export earnings.

The government also plans to utilize multiple trade routes, including sea, air, and land channels, to facilitate smooth export operations. In particular, Central Asian corridors are being seen as cost-effective and strategically important for expanding trade flows.

Economic experts believe that demand for Pakistani seafood is rising in countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, which could further strengthen regional trade ties and boost export volumes.

Authorities expect that improved logistics infrastructure and compliance with global standards will enhance Pakistan’s competitiveness in international seafood markets, helping generate valuable foreign exchange for the country.

The development is part of broader efforts to diversify Pakistan’s export base and strengthen its presence in emerging global markets, particularly in the food and agricultural trade sector.
