Bangladesh dominate as Shanto hits century

Bangladesh made a strong start against Pakistan in the first Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto leading the way with an impressive century.
After Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, Bangladesh’s batting lineup responded confidently on a batting-friendly pitch in Dhaka. Shanto played a composed innings and scored 101 runs from 130 balls, helping his team build a solid foundation during the opening day of the Test.
The left-handed batter displayed excellent timing and control throughout his innings, frustrating the Pakistani bowlers with a mix of boundaries and smart strike rotation. His century came at a crucial time for Bangladesh as the hosts looked to gain early control of the two-match Test series.
Bangladesh lost their third wicket at 201 runs after Shanto was dismissed shortly after reaching his hundred. However, the home side remained in a comfortable position with plenty of batting depth still available.
Pakistan handed Test debuts to young players Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal during the match. Both players were included as part of the team’s rebuilding process ahead of a busy international season.
Meanwhile, star batter Babar Azam missed the opening Test due to a knee injury, which was considered a major setback for the visitors. The second Test between the two sides is scheduled to begin on May 16 in Sylhet.
