President Asif Ali Zardari has paid tribute to a civilian, Liaqat, who was killed while helping to foil what officials described as a dangerous terrorist plot near Jand and the Khushal Garh Bridge in the Kohat region.

In a statement issued by the President’s Media Wing, the president said that citizens like Liaqat represent the nation’s resilience, patriotism, and collective resolve against terrorism. He said such sacrifices highlight the unity of the country in the fight against extremism.

President Zardari said Pakistan remains committed to eliminating terrorism and will continue its efforts alongside security forces and law enforcement agencies to defeat elements working against national peace and stability.

He added that the country’s fight against terrorism will continue in the face of what he described as external interference and attempts to destabilise the state.

The president also directed the Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to locate Liaqat’s family and convey the nation’s condolences and solidarity to them.

Officials said Liaqat lost his life during an incident in which a major terror-related plan was reportedly prevented through timely action. Authorities did not immediately release further operational details of the incident.

The statement described Liaqat as a symbol of courage and public spirit, noting that civilians who stand against terrorism play a critical role alongside security forces in maintaining peace.

Further updates regarding the investigation and the circumstances of the attempted attack are expected from relevant security agencies.
