Man hailed for stopping attack in kohat dies in blast

A Pakistani citizen, Liaqat, has been praised for sacrificing his life to stop a potential terrorist attack near Kohat, preventing what officials say could have been a major civilian tragedy.
According to security sources, the incident occurred near the Jand and Khushal Garh bridge area, where a suspected militant was moving through farmland toward a populated locality. Liaqat, a former employee of Pakistan Railways, confronted the individual and attempted to verify his identity, showing caution and civic responsibility.
In response to being questioned, the suspect—identified as a suicide attacker—panicked and detonated explosives on the spot. The explosion killed both the attacker and Liaqat instantly. Authorities say Liaqat’s intervention likely prevented a far larger loss of life in the surrounding community.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Liaqat, calling him a national hero and a symbol of courage. He said the citizen’s timely action reflected rare bravery, strong sense of duty, and patriotism. The Prime Minister added that Liaqat’s sacrifice would be remembered as an example of how ordinary citizens can play a critical role in countering terrorism.
Officials and security forces have also highlighted the incident as evidence of ongoing threats in the region, while praising local vigilance in identifying suspicious activity. The attack underscores the risks faced by civilians in areas affected by militant movements, and the importance of community awareness in supporting security efforts.
Residents of the area expressed grief over Liaqat’s death while also acknowledging his bravery in confronting danger head-on. His actions are being widely shared as an example of selflessness and courage in the face of extremism.
Investigations into the militant network behind the attack are ongoing, according to security officials.
