A political crisis appears to be deepening in the United Kingdom after the ruling Labour Party suffered major losses in local elections. As a result, pressure on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign has increased significantly. Moreover, four cabinet ministers reportedly resigned in protest, further intensifying political tensions.

According to British media reports, more than 80 Labour Members of Parliament have demanded that Keir Starmer either resign immediately or announce a timetable for stepping down. On the other hand, more than 100 Labour lawmakers publicly defended Starmer. Consequently, divisions within the Labour Party have become increasingly visible.

Reports also stated that at least 81 members are required to launch a formal leadership challenge within the Labour Party. Political analysts believe growing dissatisfaction inside the party could accelerate efforts to replace the current leadership. Therefore, questions are now being raised about the long-term stability of the government.

Keir Starmer rejected calls for his resignation and insisted that he remains focused on governing the country. While addressing the cabinet, he accepted responsibility for the election defeat. However, he emphasized that the party already has an established process for leadership changes, and that process has not yet been initiated.

British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy also expressed full support for Starmer. He stated that no opponent currently appears to have enough backing to challenge the prime minister successfully. In addition, he urged politicians to focus on governing instead of fueling internal political disputes.

British media reported that the poor election results have seriously weakened Keir Starmer’s political position. Experts warned that increasing divisions within the Labour Party could create further challenges for the government in the coming weeks. In conclusion, the growing pressure on the British prime minister may become a major turning point in British politics.
