National Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday issued a detailed weather outlook for May 12 to 17, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms, flash floods, and landslides in several parts of Pakistan.

The disaster management authority directed provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure all emergency preparedness measures are fully operational to deal with possible weather-related emergencies.

According to the NDMA, the expected weather conditions are consistent with the seasonal forecast released earlier for the April to June period. Officials stated that advance alerts issued three to four months ago had already indicated the likelihood of severe weather activity during the ongoing season.

The authority warned that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods in vulnerable low-lying areas, while mountainous regions may face an increased risk of landslides and road blockages. Thunderstorms and hailstorms are also expected to affect multiple regions, potentially disrupting transportation, electricity supply, and daily activities.

NDMA advised local administrations, rescue agencies, and relevant departments to stay prepared for rapid response operations in case of emergencies. Authorities were also instructed to monitor weather developments closely and ensure timely dissemination of warnings to the public.

Citizens living in flood-prone and mountainous areas have been urged to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions, and follow official safety advisories.

The weather alert comes as several regions in the country have already witnessed unstable conditions in recent days, including heavy rainfall and landslides in northern areas.

Experts say extreme weather events have become more frequent in Pakistan due to changing climate patterns, increasing the importance of timely forecasting and disaster preparedness.

The NDMA reiterated its commitment to coordinating with provincial authorities to minimize risks and ensure public safety during the forecast period.
