First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari visits AFIC and NIHD

Rawalpindi: First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari visited the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and the National Institute of Heart Diseases (NIHD) on Wednesday, where she was briefed on the latest advancements in heart disease treatment, including a new partnership with Chinese experts.
During her visit, the First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari was given a briefing by a team of Chinese cardiovascular specialists, led by Professor Dr. Pan Xiangbin. The briefing highlighted the collaboration between Pakistan and China in treating congenital and structural heart diseases using modern techniques under ultrasound guidance. This innovative treatment approach is being provided for the first time in Pakistan at AFIC, with Chinese cooperation.
Senator Saleem Mandviwala, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, and Major General Nasir Ahmad Samor, Commandant of AFIC and NIHD, were also present during the visit.
Ambassador Zaidong emphasized that China plans to extend its advanced cardiac services to Balochistan and provide training opportunities for Pakistani doctors in the latest cardiovascular treatment techniques. He reiterated China’s commitment to further enhancing cooperation with Pakistan in the health sector.
The First Lady expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for their cooperation in the healthcare sector and praised the management of AFIC for providing state-of-the-art treatment to heart patients.
Asifa Bhutto Zardari also toured various wards at AFIC, interacting with patients and presenting them with flowers. She was later presented with a commemorative shield by the Commandant of AFIC.
