Utility Stores Shut Down
The Government of Pakistan has closed all utility stores nationwide. These stores were known for selling essential items at affordable prices. A formal notice was issued by the Ministry of Industries and Production confirming the closure.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Board of Directors approved the decision. The order stated that all sales at utility stores would stop on July 31, 2025. This action affects millions of people who depend on these stores for basic needs.

Workers at the utility stores protested the shutdown across the country. They demanded the government reverse its decision. However, the protests were not successful. The government did not change its plan.

Sources said the closure had been planned for several weeks. The decision was made in advance and finalized this month. Officials informed workers privately before issuing the official notice.

The government plans to offer a Voluntary Separation Scheme to store employees. This plan will give workers financial options for leaving their jobs. More details about the scheme will be shared soon.

Many citizens fear the shutdown could increase the cost of daily goods. Without utility stores, low-income families may face more pressure from rising prices. The government has not yet announced an alternative support program.
