Assault case: Former stage actress Nargis meets MPA Hina Parvez Butt

On the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority met with former actress Nargis, a victim of assault, assuring her of action against the accused.

Member of Provincial Assembly Hina Parvez Butt stated, “Violence and oppression against women is a red line for the Punjab government.” She further added that the government is taking serious steps to eliminate such incidents.

Earlier, there were reports that Nargi’s son Murtaza Shah, a Canadian citizen, had written a letter to the commissioner Lahore in which he said that violence against his mother was a routine, and the family wanted justice.

Apart from the commissioner, the e-mail was also sent to other senior government officials.

Prior to the e-mail, police in DHA, Lahore registered an FIR against Inspector Majid Bashir, the actress’s husband, on the latter’s complaint.

As per the text of the FIR, Majid subjected Nargis to torture to get the nine-canal plot situated at Barki Road registered in his name.

It was also stated in the FIR that Majid pressured the actress to hand over the property documents, gold and cash to him, and when the latter refused to do so, the inspector tortured her.

Nargis alleged in the FIR that her husband threatened to kill her in the event of not accepting his demands.

On Friday, 24News TV channel reported that the brother of stage actress Nargis had alleged that her sister’s husband physically tortures her on a daily basis.

In his complaint to the police, Khurram Bhatti has said that Majid Bashir beats up Nargis due to which her condition has deteriorated.

On the other hand, sources in the police have told 24News TV channel that the actress has yet to lodge a complaint against her husband and that the action will only be taken once she gets an FIR registered.

Nargis had married Majid a few years ago and later bid adieu to the world of showbiz.

Sources said that she had been running a saloon for the past several years.
