COLOMBO: Bangladesh bowled out Pakistan for a low total of 129 runs in 38.3 overs on Thursday at the R Premadasa Stadium. Bangladesh’s bowlers applied consistent pressure, leading to early wickets and a collapse in Pakistan’s batting lineup. Captain Fatima Sana’s decision to bat first backfired as Pakistan lost two key batters in the very first over. Marufa Akter struck twice with in-swingers to dismiss Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin without scoring.

Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim tried to steady the innings with a 42-run partnership. However, Nahida Akter broke the stand by removing Muneeba for 17 runs. Soon, Pakistan lost more wickets, reaching just 67 runs for five wickets down. Rameen remained the top-scorer with 23 runs from 39 balls, while Muneeba contributed 17 runs. Other batters such as Aliya Riaz, Sidra Nawaz, and captain Fatima added small contributions.

Rameen’s efforts helped Pakistan reach 100 runs by 29.3 overs before a quick 16 not out by Diana Baig took the total to 129. Bangladesh’s Shorna Akter was the standout bowler, taking three wickets for just five runs. Marufa and Nahida Akter each took two wickets, while other bowlers shared the remaining dismissals. Bangladesh’s collective bowling effort ensured Pakistan struggled throughout the innings.

Pakistan qualified for the tournament after winning all their matches in the World Cup qualifier held earlier this year. Before this tournament, Pakistan played a three-match ODI series against South Africa in Lahore, losing 2-1. Pakistan’s group stage matches will all take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Conditions were hot and humid, with experts suggesting the pitch favored batting through the line.

Commentators Alan Wilkins and Russel Arnold noted that the pitch would not slow down or take turn later. Arnold said teams should target a par score of 260-265 instead of going for 300. Pakistan’s team lineup featured a mix of experienced and young players, but they struggled against Bangladesh’s strong bowling attack. Bangladesh’s victory highlighted their growing strength in women’s cricket on the international stage.
