Bangladesh Elections 2025: Close Race, Counting Underway

Bangladesh has completed voting for its 13th national parliamentary elections, and vote counting is now underway across the country. The main contest is between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, with early trends suggesting a close race. Bangladesh national elections vote counting has drawn wide public attention as the nation waits for official results and possible political change.
These elections are taking place 18 months after a student-led movement ended the two-decade rule of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The political landscape has shifted significantly since then, and many voters see this election as a turning point for the country’s democratic future.
A tough competition is expected between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and alliances led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. In past elections, unofficial results usually began to appear the next morning. However, officials say this time the counting process may take longer because voters used two ballot papers: a white one for parliamentary seats and a pink one for a national charter referendum. The higher number of political parties and candidates has also added to the complexity.

There are 300 general seats in parliament, along with 50 reserved seats for women that are allocated through proportional representation. The final voter list, published in November 2025, shows more than 127 million registered voters. For the first time, postal voting was introduced, allowing around 15 million overseas workers to participate.
The Election Commission has thanked political parties, candidates, law enforcement agencies, observers, journalists, and voters for helping maintain a peaceful and fair environment. Special prayers were also requested at mosques and other places of worship for peace and prosperity. As the country waits for the final outcome, Bangladesh national elections vote counting remains the central focus, with results expected to shape the next phase of governance and political stability.
