BCCI Pressures for Foreign Players’ Return as IPL Resumes Amid Security Concerns

Mumbai – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has intensified efforts to ensure the participation of foreign players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the tournament is set to resume from May 17, following a pause due to recent tensions between India and Pakistan.
According to media reports, while the political situation between the two neighboring countries has eased, several overseas players, including those from Australia, have raised concerns over security and are hesitant to return.
In response, the BCCI has reached out to major cricket boards worldwide and directed the IPL Chief Operating Officer to personally engage with the concerned players to address their apprehensions.
A BCCI official stated that constant communication is being maintained with international boards and franchises to encourage players’ return. “We are in regular contact with all stakeholders to facilitate a smooth continuation of the league,” the official said.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has acknowledged the situation, stating that it will respect individual players’ decisions regarding participation. However, the board also noted that squad selection for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final will remain at its discretion. Australia confirmed it is in close coordination with BCCI regarding security arrangements.
The IPL final is scheduled for June 3, while the WTC final is set to begin on June 11.
