Bomb Blast Injures Three Near Bangladesh Gopalganj Polling Station

DHAKA – A locally made bomb exploded near a polling station in Bangladesh’s Gopalganj district on election day. The blast injured three people during the country’s first general elections after the Gen Z-led political transformation. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the Reshma International School polling center. The area is the hometown of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Witnesses said voting was proceeding peacefully when unidentified individuals threw a crude explosive device from across a nearby canal. The explosion injured two Ansar personnel, Sukanta Majumdar and Jamal Hossain. A 14-year-old girl, Amina Khatun, also suffered injuries in the blast. She is the daughter of a voter from the Arambagh area.

Authorities immediately shifted the injured to a nearby clinic for first aid treatment. The explosion caused partial damage to the main entrance of the polling station. However, officials confirmed that no fatalities were reported. Security forces quickly secured the area to prevent further incidents.

Law enforcement agencies collected evidence from the site and tightened security around the polling center. Despite the blast, polling continued as scheduled without major disruption. Officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring a safe and transparent voting process.

These elections are politically significant for Bangladesh. Citizens are voting for new leadership after recent political changes. Direct elections are being held for 300 parliamentary seats. Additionally, 50 reserved seats are allocated for women. More than 127.7 million registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots.
