A pet insurance company in the United States has honoured a heroic dog for saving his family from a raging bull. Nationwide Pet Insurance announced the winner of this year’s Hambone Award, which recognises pets for extraordinary acts in unexpected moments. This year’s winner is a dog named Zaya from Northern California. He protected his owner during a walk when a bull suddenly attacked. Without hesitation, Zaya stood between the bull and his family. His quick reaction gave his owner the chance to escape safely.

The award’s name comes from a past case of a dog who survived a day trapped in a refrigerator. The dog managed to live by eating an entire ham. This story inspired the unique award’s title.

Zaya won the Hambone Award through an online voting process. Nine other pets were nominated for this year’s competition. However, Zaya’s courageous act stood out among all candidates. His story touched voters and drew wide admiration across social media platforms.
