Grave-Digging World Championship Held in Hungary
Hungary – An unusual yet traditional event took place in Hungary, where the annual grave-digging world championship was organised by a local cemetery caretakers’ association.

This year’s competition was held at the Alsóváros Cemetery near Szekszárd, featuring two-member teams. Both professional gravediggers and amateur participants were allowed to take part.

According to the rules, each grave had to be 160 cm deep, 80 cm wide, and 200 cm long. Participants were given a maximum of two hours to dig and 15 minutes to refill the grave. Judges emphasised that the walls had to be perfectly straight and the bottom completely flat, with no errors tolerated.

Local team Paralytos delivered an outstanding performance and secured first place, completing the task in 1 hour, 33 minutes, and 20 seconds.
