Bushra Bibi taken into custody following conviction in £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case

RAWALPINDI: Former First Lady Bushra Bibi has been taken into custody after being convicted in the high-profile £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. The conviction came after a lengthy trial, which saw both Bushra Bibi and her husband, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, face charges related to financial mismanagement of the funds.
On the same day, Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison by an accountability court for his role in the case. The verdict was delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail, where both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were present. Bushra Bibi received a sentence of seven years in jail.
In addition to the prison sentences, the court imposed fines on the couple. Imran Khan was fined Rs 1 million, while Bushra Bibi was ordered to pay Rs 500,000. If they fail to pay the fines, they will face additional prison time—six months for Imran Khan and three months for Bushra Bibi.
After the verdict, Bushra Bibi was immediately taken into custody from the courtroom in Rawalpindi and brought to Adiala Jail to join her husband, who has already been incarcerated.
The court also directed the government to take control of Al-Qadir University, which had been central to the case. The ruling had been delayed multiple times, with postponements on December 23, January 6, and January 13.
