Chinese Scientists Develop World’s First Software

Chinese scientists have developed the world’s first software capable of accurately calculating lunar time, marking a major breakthrough for future missions to the Moon.

Experts say the innovation will significantly enhance navigation, landing accuracy, and communication for upcoming lunar missions as space agencies worldwide prepare for renewed exploration of the Moon.

Unlike Earth, time on the Moon moves slightly faster due to its weaker gravity, advancing by nearly 56 microseconds per Earth day—a difference that may seem small but is critical for precise space navigation.

Researchers at China’s Purple Mountain Observatory designed the software to account for lunar gravity and orbital motion, allowing accurate synchronization between Earth and Moon time systems.

Scientists Plan Plant Systems for Moon and Mars Missions

According to scientists, the system can maintain accuracy for up to 1,000 years, with deviations limited to just a few dozen nanoseconds, ensuring long-term reliability for lunar operations.

Named LTE-440, the software simplifies complex calculations and enables direct comparison between Earth time and lunar standard time, making it easier for mission planners and scientists.

Although currently at the conceptual stage, researchers are confident the software will soon be implemented in real missions, with the findings already published in a scientific journal.
