The severe cyclonic storm Shakhti has weakened into a cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea. According to the Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi, this change occurred during the last six hours. The storm is now centered near Latitude 19.6°N and Longitude 60.4°E, about 910 kilometers southwest of Karachi. It is moving east-southeast and is expected to weaken further into a depression within the next 24 hours.

Isolated light rain is likely today in coastal areas of Sindh and Baluchistan. This rain will occur under the influence of the weakening cyclone. Meanwhile, sea conditions will remain very rough to high near the Sindh coast. Squally winds are expected to blow at speeds of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour. Gusts could reach up to 90 kilometers per hour, making conditions dangerous for small boats.

Fishermen have been strongly advised to avoid venturing into deep sea waters until October 7. The Cyclone Warning Center warned that gale-force winds near the storm’s center may reach 80 to 90 kilometers per hour. These winds could gust up to 100 kilometers per hour. Over the next 24 hours, winds are expected to gradually reduce to 45-55 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 65 kilometers per hour.

Sea conditions will remain very rough to very high over the northwest and west-central Arabian Sea during this period. The authorities are closely monitoring the system and will update warnings as necessary. Residents and fishermen should stay alert and follow official advice to stay safe.

Overall, the weakening of Cyclone Shakhti brings some relief, but dangerous weather will continue for coastal regions. Preparedness and caution remain critical as the storm slowly loses strength. The Pakistan Meteorological Department will keep a close watch on any changes.
