Mokwa: Continuous heavy rainfall in Nigeria’s Nigre State has led to the collapse of a dam, triggering devastating floods that submerged the entire town of Mokwa.
At least 88 people have been confirmed dead and over 100 injured, while rescue operations are still underway. Authorities are evacuating residents to safer locations.
Mokwa, a major commercial hub known for attracting traders and farmers from across the country, has seen its markets and residential areas completely inundated.
Rescue officials have urged the public to stay away from low-lying areas as the situation remains critical.
It’s worth noting that in September last year, a similar flood in Maiduguri claimed 30 lives and displaced thousands.
