Dengue and Malaria Cases

Dengue and malaria continue to spread rapidly across Hyderabad and several districts of interior Sindh, as hospitals remain flooded with patients. Despite the alarming surge, preventive measures and fumigation drives remain largely absent in many affected areas.

Hundreds of patients are being treated daily in public hospitals, private clinics, and at home, with residents expressing concern over the lack of mosquito control campaigns and delayed government response.

According to Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad, Zain-ul-Abideen, at least four people have died due to dengue virus infection so far.

Data from the Liaquat University Diagnostic and Research Laboratory revealed that in October alone, 17,364 individuals were screened across Sindh, out of which 7,679 tested positive for dengue. In Hyderabad, Qasimabad, and Latifabad, as many as 6,486 dengue cases have been confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Health Department reported that from January to October 2025, a total of 2,416,427 people were screened, and 215,270 tested positive for malaria across the province.

Despite the Sindh government allocating Rs. 1.21 billion for the Anti-Malaria Program, the rising number of malaria cases has raised serious questions about the efficiency and implementation of the initiative.

Health experts have urged authorities to launch large-scale fumigation campaigns, drain stagnant water, and ensure timely medical supplies to prevent further spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
