Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump, 79, has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a common yet progressive vein disorder, following visible swelling in his legs and discolouration on his hands. The diagnosis came after recent public appearances sparked speculation due to noticeable health changes.

According to an official statement from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the former president underwent a comprehensive medical examination after experiencing persistent swelling in his lower limbs. The assessment revealed that he is suffering from chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which veins in the legs have difficulty sending blood back to the heart, often leading to swelling, pain, and skin discolouration.

The press secretary clarified that Trump’s bruised hands were “consistent with tissue damage from frequent handshaking”—a “common occurrence for public figures who engage in high-volume physical interaction. She also confirmed that Trump has been taking aspirin as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen, suggesting the measure is precautionary and not indicative of any acute cardiac event.

What Is Chronic Venous Insufficiency?

Chronic venous insufficiency is a medical condition that affects blood flow in the veins, primarily in the legs. It is typically caused by faulty valves within the veins that allow blood to pool rather than circulate effectively. Symptoms can include leg swelling, heaviness, cramping, skin changes, and, in more advanced cases, varicose veins or ulcers.

While the condition is not life-threatening, it requires consistent monitoring and management through lifestyle changes, compression therapy, and, in some cases, medical procedures.

Health in the Public Eye

This update comes at a time when Trump remains an active figure in American politics and is considered a leading candidate for the 2024 presidential election. His health has often been a topic of public interest, with his team frequently addressing concerns to maintain transparency.
