Islamabad— A shocking case of donkey meat being illegally sold in the federal capital has prompted swift action from authorities, with a three-member investigative committee currently probing the matter.

According to sources close to the inquiry, the suspects were reportedly selecting only sick and unusable donkeys for slaughter. These animals, which are typically valued between Rs60,000 and Rs100,000 in the Pakistani market, were allegedly bought for as little as Rs30,000 to Rs40,000 due to their poor health and inability to perform labour.

Investigations revealed that the cost of processing the meat amounted to around Rs400 per kilogram for the suppliers. However, once in the market, the meat could be sold for a much higher price—between Rs900 and Rs1,200 per kilogram—posing a major health and ethical concern.

Sources further disclosed that the meat was reportedly being supplied to Chinese nationals living in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Authorities are now looking into whether any restaurants or food establishments knowingly or unknowingly purchased the illegal meat.
