Dr. Bakht Baidar Khan Passes Away

Professor Dr. Bakht Baidar Khan, a pioneer of livestock education in Pakistan, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 91. He died at Al-Shifa International Hospital in Faisalabad. His funeral was held at Bahar-e-Madina mosque, and he was buried in Kamal Abad graveyard. Colleagues and students across generations mourn his loss, remembering him as a dedicated teacher, author, and mentor who shaped animal husbandry education in Pakistan.

Born on April 20, 1934, in Gujrat, Dr. Khan belonged to the Warraich family of Ch Saeed Khan. He completed his early education in Lahore before earning his B.V.Sc. and B.Sc. (A.H) degrees from the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore. He began his career in Bahawalnagar and later joined the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, in 1961. After earning his M.Sc. in Livestock Management, he secured a USAID scholarship and completed his Ph.D. in Animal Sciences from Colorado State University in 1969.

Dr. Khan dedicated over three decades to the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. He advanced from lecturer to professor, later serving as Chairman of Livestock Management and Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. His research on the “Effect of Heat Stress on Milk Production of Dairy Buffaloes” was a major contribution. Even after his retirement in 1994, he remained deeply involved as Professor Emeritus, guiding faculty and students with unwavering commitment and wisdom.

A prolific author, Dr. Khan wrote extensively in both English and Urdu. His textbooks became essential reading for students of animal sciences across Pakistan. His best-known works include Breeds of Livestock in Pakistan, Production and Management of Camels, and Husbandry and Health of Horses. He also wrote Urdu titles such as Anmol Ghorey, making technical knowledge accessible to a wider audience. His writings continue to serve as a cornerstone of livestock education in Pakistan.

Dr. Khan will be remembered for his humility, kindness, and lifelong service to education. His students describe him as a compassionate mentor who shared credit generously and supported them both academically and personally. Many recall his faith, sincerity, and quiet leadership. He is survived by his two sons, Dr. Saeed Akhtar and Dr. Asad Saeed, and his son-in-law, Mr. Sikandar Hayat. May Allah bless his soul and give his family strength to bear this great loss.
