ECP Restores 76 Reserved Seats to Political Parties Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reinstated 76 reserved seats across the National Assembly and three provincial assemblies, granting them to various political parties after legal review and procedural clearance.

In the National Assembly, 21 reserved seats have been restored, which include eight women members from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ten women members from Punjab, and three non-Muslim members. These reinstatements mark a key development in the parliamentary makeup following the general elections.

At the provincial level, the Punjab Assembly saw the restoration of 24 women and three minority seats. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 women and four non-Muslim members were returned to their seats, while in the Sindh Assembly, two women and one minority member had their memberships restored.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the major beneficiary in this development. A total of 44 reserved seats across national and provincial legislatures were reinstated in favour of the party. In the National Assembly alone, PML-N regained 14 seats, followed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) with 4 and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) with 3.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, JUI-F had 10 seats restored, PML-N 7, PPP 6, and one each was returned to the Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P). The Punjab Assembly saw 23 seats going back to the PML-N, 2 to the PPP, and one each to the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).

Meanwhile, the Sindh Assembly returned one seat to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and two to the PPP. Overall, JUI-F secured 13 restored seats, PPP 14, MQM-P one, and one each was returned to IPP, PML-Q, ANP, and PTI parliamentarians.
