London: Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months and fined £1,400 (approx. $1,400) after being caught speeding in Oxford.

According to court documents, the 35-year-old actress was driving at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone on July 31, 2024. The High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court issued the verdict on July 16. Watson did not attend the hearing.

Interestingly, on the same day, actress Zoë Wanamaker, who played Madam Hooch in the Harry Potter series, was also handed a similar sentence for a separate speeding offence.

Both actresses already had nine penalty points on their licences, and the new violations pushed them over the legal limit, triggering the automatic six-month ban under UK driving laws.

Emma Watson is currently on a break from acting, focusing on education and women’s rights advocacy.
