EU representative meets with CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met with a group headed by Olof Skoog, the European Union’s special envoy for human rights, to address important topics pertaining to democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.
CM Maryam praised the EU’s ongoing involvement with Pakistan, especially Punjab, and its positive human rights discussion at the meeting. She emphasized the dedication of the province administration to protecting fundamental rights, maintaining the rule of law, and preserving democratic ideals.
The European Union delegation reiterated its backing for the human rights initiatives of the Punjab administration. Skoog praised Pakistan’s efforts to protect vulnerable groups and advance human rights.
CM Maryam Nawaz spoke at the event and emphasized Pakistan’s strong participation in the UN’s human rights processes.
While highlighting tangible actions made for the welfare of minorities, women, children, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups, she reaffirmed Punjab’s commitment to democracy and legal reforms.
She added that Pakistan successfully submitted its report under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) in August 2024 and recently took part in a significant UN human rights assessment session. The chief minister reaffirmed her intention to advance Pakistan’s future human rights cooperation with the EU.
