RAWALPINDI – Former Pakistan Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa sustained injuries after a fall at his residence, ISPR said. He was immediately shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where he is currently receiving treatment. The military’s media wing confirmed the update on Thursday, noting that his condition is being closely monitored.

General Bajwa served as the 16th Chief of Army Staff from November 2016 to November 2022. He was succeeded by General Syed Asim Munir, who is now the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces. Bajwa’s career in the army spanned more than four decades, during which he held several key positions.

He was commissioned into the Baloch Regiment in 1980 and rose steadily through the ranks. Before becoming army chief, he commanded the strategically important X Corps in Rawalpindi. He also served as Inspector General Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters, overseeing operational readiness and training standards.

In addition, Bajwa gained international exposure through UN peacekeeping missions, including deployment in Congo. His tenure as army chief included a three-year extension and coincided with significant security challenges, regional developments, and domestic political changes. He played an active role in counterterrorism operations and high-level strategic diplomacy.

Since retiring in November 2022, Bajwa has largely stayed out of the public eye. The ISPR statement emphasized that he is receiving appropriate medical care and that his recovery is the priority. Family and officials are closely monitoring his condition while he continues treatment at CMH.
