Ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Freed From Israeli Custody

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed the release of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed from Israeli custody. Mushtaq was detained while taking part in the Gaza-bound Sumud Flotilla mission. Israeli naval forces took him into custody from the red zone as he tried to break the Gaza blockade. His arrest sparked concern and diplomatic efforts for his safe return. Ishaq Dar announced the news through a post on X. He said Mushtaq Ahmed is now safe at the Pakistani Embassy in Amman, Jordan. He added that the former senator is in good health and high spirits. The embassy is ready to assist with his return to Pakistan. Dar also thanked friendly countries that helped during this process.

Earlier, another flotilla participant, Pir Mazhar Saeed Shah, returned safely to Pakistan. He arrived in Islamabad from Doha and received a warm welcome at the airport. His return had raised hopes for Mushtaq Ahmed’s release. The Pakistani government had been working through diplomatic channels to secure both individuals’ safety.

According to reports, Israel released 137 activists from the Sumud Flotilla mission. This group included 36 Turkish nationals. Many activists had joined the flotilla to protest the Gaza blockade. The mission drew international attention and triggered diplomatic engagement. Pakistan’s foreign office played a key role in these efforts.
