Farooq Sattar Blames PPP for Karachi’s Decline

Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Dr. Farooq Sattar sharply criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Sindh government. He accused them of causing the “destruction and devastation” of Karachi. Sattar specifically blamed PPP leadership, including the mayor, for the city’s current state of decline.
Sattar argued that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari avoided addressing Karachi’s issues. He criticized the party for displaying arrogance after gaining power and resources through the 7th National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. Sattar reminded the PPP that MQM fought for provincial autonomy and played a key role in the 18th Amendment.
Sattar claimed that the PPP had monopolized Karachi’s resources for the past 17 years. He accused the party of manipulating delimitations to install its own mayor. The MQM leader also pointed out that PPP had failed to fulfill its commitment to transfer powers to local governments as promised under Article 140-A.
According to Sattar, the provincial government and feudal elites had “frozen all development” in Karachi. He criticized the Sindh government for leaving the city’s infrastructure in disrepair. Sattar also mentioned how the government’s failure had shattered the hopes and dreams of Karachi’s youth.
Sattar called for urgent federal intervention, warning that Karachi’s situation was worsening. He referred to a meeting where Ahsan Iqbal warned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif about the growing discontent in Karachi. Despite assurances, Sattar expressed strong resentment when the federal government passed the local government amendment bill without MQM-P’s proposed changes.
