Federal Cabinet approves import of 500,000 tons of sugar to stabilise prices

Islamabad: The federal cabinet has approved the import of 500,000 tons of sugar to stop the rising sugar prices.
According to the Ministry of National Food Security, the import will be carried out through the public sector, with all necessary arrangements finalised for immediate implementation.
A ministry spokesperson stated that the import strategy differs from past practices, aiming to avoid artificial shortages and reduce reliance on subsidies. In the past, sugar was exported when domestic supplies were abundant, but the current import decision has been taken to stabilise local prices.
