ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet meeting, scheduled to be held today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the 27th Constitutional Amendment, has been postponed.

According to official sources, the meeting was set to take place in Committee Room No. 2 of the Parliament House, where cabinet members were expected to review key government matters and approve the draft of the proposed constitutional amendment.

However, cabinet members have now been formally notified about the postponement of the session.

Sources further revealed that the reasons for the postponement have not yet been disclosed, while a new date for the meeting is likely to be announced in the coming days.

The 27th Amendment was expected to focus on governance and administrative reforms, though no official details have been released so far.

 The 27th Constitutional Amendment bill will be presented in the Senate on Friday for initial approval. It will then be referred to the Senate Committee for review the same day. According to sources, the committee will discuss the proposed changes on November 8 and 9.

The bill is expected to be presented before the full Senate on November 10 for further debate.

The government plans to table the amendment in the National Assembly on November 14. Officials said the ruling coalition will need 224 votes to ensure the bill’s passage.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will meet tomorrow to finalize its stance on the amendment. Party leaders are reviewing key clauses and will decide their position after internal consultations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tasked National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq with building consensus for the amendment’s smooth passage. The speaker has called a meeting of all parliamentary leaders today at 4:00 PM. The session will focus on gathering political support and finalizing the strategy for legislative approval.
