First monkeypox case reported in Karachi, Sindh Health Department confirms

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has confirmed the first case of monkeypox (mpox) in Karachi, marking the city’s first reported instance of the viral infection.
The patient, a 28-year-old man from Shah Latif Town, contracted the virus after his wife developed symptoms. Health officials have noted that the patient’s wife has a recent travel history abroad, which may be linked to the transmission.
To contain the spread, the patient has been placed in an isolation ward, ensuring that necessary precautions are taken to prevent further infections.
This case follows Pakistan’s first reported mpox case of 2025, which was recorded earlier in January. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to follow preventive measures and report any suspected symptoms immediately.
