Flooding has worsened in Jalalpur Pirwala, a tehsil of Multan, forcing authorities to close Motorway M-5 for all types of traffic. Officials said the rising water and erosion could cause a breach in the motorway.

According to PDMA Punjab, along with NHA and other agencies, protective measures are being taken to save the motorway. Sandbags and stones are being used to prevent major damage, and authorities expect the water level to drop within the next 24 hours.

Water flow in Punjab’s rivers is also decreasing quickly. At Panjnad, the flow has reduced to 392,000 cusecs, while at Guddu Barrage, the flow stands at 627,000 cusecs.

Motorway Police confirmed that traffic is being diverted to alternate routes. Northbound vehicles are being rerouted from Uch Sharif, Jhangra, and Jalalpur interchanges, while southbound traffic is diverted from Shah Shams, Sher Shah, and Shujaabad South.
