Former AJK PM Tanveer Ilyas Faces Arrest Warrant

A local court in Islamabad has issued an arrest warrant for former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas. The warrant relates to a case involving alleged misuse of a diplomatic passport. The court also rejected his application seeking exemption from personal appearance. Authorities have been directed to ensure his arrest and production before the court. The decision marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation against the former premier.
During proceedings at the District and Sessions Court, the judge dismissed Tanveer Ilyas’s plea for exemption from attendance. The court emphasized that he must appear in person for legal accountability. This ruling ensures that the former premier will face the judicial process without delay. Legal experts say the decision reflects the court’s strict stance on compliance with procedural requirements.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has already registered a case against Tanveer Ilyas. The case pertains to the alleged misuse of a diplomatic passport during his tenure as AJK premier. FIA officials are tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the issuance and use of the passport. Authorities are also required to report progress to the court regularly. The investigation is ongoing and could lead to further legal actions.
The court has adjourned further hearing of the case until November 24. It has instructed the FIA to submit a progress report on the execution of the arrest warrant. This allows authorities time to locate and apprehend the former premier. The court’s instructions aim to ensure swift and transparent legal proceedings. Legal observers note that the adjournment maintains judicial oversight of the investigation.
The case has attracted public attention due to Tanveer Ilyas’s political stature. Observers say the ruling underscores the judiciary’s commitment to accountability and rule of law. Political analysts believe the development may have broader implications for governance in AJK. Meanwhile, the FIA continues its efforts to execute the arrest warrant and provide updates to the court. The situation remains closely monitored by media and the public.
