Admiral Yastur-ul-Haq Malik, the former Chief of Naval Staff of Pakistan, has passed away in Lahore. He was a revered figure in the Pakistan Navy, known for his distinguished service and significant contributions to the nation’s defence.

Admiral Malik joined the Pakistan Navy in 1954, beginning a career that would span nearly four decades. Throughout his tenure, he played a key role in shaping the Navy and its strategic capabilities. He was an active participant in both the 1965 and 1971 Pakistan-India wars, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to his country during times of conflict.

Serving as the Chief of Naval Staff from 1988 to 1991, Admiral Malik led the Pakistan Navy through a period of modernisation, focusing on improving naval assets and strengthening the country’s maritime defence. His leadership was crucial in modernising the fleet and aligning the Navy with global standards.

The current Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, expressed deep sorrow over Admiral Malik’s passing. In a statement, Admiral Ashraf praised his predecessor for his outstanding service and the indelible mark he left on the Pakistan Navy. He extended his condolences to the family of Admiral Malik, acknowledging his invaluable contribution to the defence of the nation.
