Free Wi-Fi and Railway Upgrades Coming to Punjab Stations, Says Minister Hanif Abbasi

Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced major upgrades to Punjab’s railway stations, including free Wi-Fi service at 40 locations. He shared these plans during an interview with a private news channel. The initiative is part of a broader government strategy to modernize Pakistan Railways.
The Punjab government will invest Rs. 350 billion to upgrade eight branch railway routes across the province. This large-scale funding aims to improve both infrastructure and passenger experience. The goal is to make rail travel more efficient and user-friendly for the public.
In addition to free Wi-Fi, the government is focusing on the ML-1 railway corridor as a central project. Abbasi highlighted ML-1 as a priority in the national development agenda. This corridor is expected to improve speed, safety, and capacity across Pakistan’s railway system.
The modernization plan also includes governance reforms and the use of advanced technology in railway operations. Abbasi emphasized that all upgrades will meet international standards. He said digital integration and transparency will strengthen performance within the railway department.
Meanwhile, the federal government is also in talks with the Sindh government for similar railway upgrades in that province. These discussions aim to ensure uniform progress across the country. Coordination between provinces will play a key role in the success of these initiatives.
Overall, Hanif Abbasi’s announcement marks a significant step toward transforming Pakistan Railways. With free Wi-Fi, modern tracks, and upgraded systems, the government hopes to restore public trust and increase railway usage nationwide.
