A new assessment report by the United Nations and the European Union has estimated that approximately $71.4 billion will be required for the reconstruction of war-affected Gaza.

The “Gaza Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment” report evaluates the scale of destruction caused over a 24-month period of ongoing conflict. It highlights extensive damage to housing, infrastructure, healthcare systems, schools, and essential public services, leaving large parts of the territory in ruins.

According to the findings, rebuilding Gaza will require a long-term, coordinated international effort involving funding, technical support, and humanitarian assistance. The report stresses that recovery will not only involve physical reconstruction but also restoring basic services and livelihoods for the affected population.

The assessment comes amid continued global concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where repeated military operations have resulted in widespread displacement and shortages of essential supplies. The report underscores that rebuilding efforts will need to address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development challenges.

International organizations have called for increased cooperation among donors, governments, and aid agencies to ensure effective implementation of reconstruction plans. They also emphasized the importance of stability and sustained access for humanitarian workers to carry out recovery operations.

The estimated cost reflects the scale of destruction across multiple sectors, making it one of the most significant reconstruction efforts in recent history. Experts warn that without substantial financial and political commitment, recovery could take many years.

The report is expected to inform upcoming international discussions on aid packages and reconstruction frameworks aimed at supporting Gaza’s recovery and rebuilding critical infrastructure.
