Government Decides to Remove PTV Fee from Electricity Bills to Provide Relief

Islamabad: The federal government has decided to provide relief to electricity consumers by eliminating the PTV fee from monthly electricity bills. I just wanted to let you know that an official announcement about this is expected soon.
Currently, a fee of Rs. 35 is being charged under the head of PTV from all electricity users. The new move will apply across all consumer categories, effectively ending the deduction.
According to sources, this decision comes at the direction of the Prime Minister, who recently called for the removal of unnecessary surcharges, including the PTV fee. A comprehensive plan was prepared earlier this month to streamline electricity billing and reduce the financial burden on citizens.
Reports indicate that over 42.6 million electricity consumers were contributing nearly Rs 1.5 billion annually solely through the PTV fee. During a high-level briefing, the Prime Minister was informed that this step would help offer direct relief in electricity tariffs. It was also revealed that out of Rs. 16 billion in related taxes, only Rs. 11 billion are recovered each year.
The Prime Minister instructed authorities to explore alternative funding models for PTV and emphasised making utility billing more transparent and fair for the public. During the meeting, officials also briefed him on a new initiative under the “Power Smart App”, which will allow users to submit their meter readings under the slogan “Apna Meter, Apni Reading” (Your Meter, Your Reading).
