Islamabad – In a notable update for Pakistani citizens, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced significant changes to its Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) rules in over twenty years. These updates feature the rollout of extensive online services, intended to modernise the country’s national identification system.

According to official sources, the new reforms, approved recently by the federal cabinet, are part of a broader initiative to align Pakistan’s identity management system with international standards. Citizens will now be able to apply for a new CNIC, renew existing ones, and access various related services from the comfort of their homes through NADRA’s mobile application and web portal.

A senior NADRA official explained that the biometric verification system has been upgraded to enhance data protection and increase transparency across the board. These updates are expected to strengthen the integrity of identity records while offering greater convenience to users.

Another key change involves the registration of newborns. The new policy makes it mandatory to register births at the local Union Council level, a move aimed at curbing the issuance of fake or inaccurate records.

NADRA officials have hailed these updates as a crucial step toward a “Digital Pakistan,” stating that the reforms will save time and resources for citizens while significantly improving efficiency and transparency in service delivery.
