Hamas delays hostage release amid violations of ceasefire agreement

Tensions in Gaza have escalated as Hamas announced it is postponing the release of hostages, citing violations of the ceasefire agreement by Israel. The conflict, which has seen heavy casualties and widespread destruction, is now at risk of further deterioration after the US and Israel’s actions undermined the truce.
A spokesperson for Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Ubaida, stated that despite the ceasefire agreement, Israel continues to kill Palestinians and obstruct humanitarian aid deliveries. He emphasized that as long as Israel fails to uphold the terms of the ceasefire, the hostages will not be released. In response to Hamas’ stance, Israel has reportedly placed its military on high alert.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump issued a warning, threatening to end the Gaza ceasefire if all hostages are not released by Saturday, warning that such a move would lead to further devastation in the region.
In a defiant response, senior Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri dismissed Trump’s threat, stating that Hamas does not place importance on such statements. According to him, the only way for the hostages to be freed is through the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
