Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Issued in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Civil Defence has issued a weather alert for several regions, warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain until Wednesday.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Civil Defence posted on X, urging citizens to stay cautious during the coming days. The statement highlighted the risks of hail, dust storms, and strong winds.
In the Makkah region, including Taif, Maysan, Othom, Makkah City, Al-Ardiyat, Al-Laith, and nearby towns, heavy rainfall is expected. Authorities also warned about flooding risks in valleys and low-lying areas.
Other regions, such as Asir, Jazan, Al-Baha, and Najran, will likely see medium to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Riyadh and Madinah may experience light to moderate showers. Citizens were advised to avoid unnecessary travel during unstable conditions.
The Civil Defence urged people to stay indoors, remain in safe places, and avoid flooded areas. Residents were strictly warned not to swim in rainwater pools and to follow instructions shared on official channels and social media platforms.
The alert comes after a tragic incident in the tourist city of Abha. A lightning strike killed two women and seriously injured another. The injured woman remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Relatives of the victims revealed that the families had travelled from Al-Qurayyat for leisure. Sadly, during their outing, lightning struck, instantly killing a woman and her 22-year-old daughter on the spot.
