Heavy Rains Force Two-Day School Closure in Azad Kashmir

Authorities in Azad Kashmir have announced a two-day closure of schools due to heavy rains.
Both public and private institutions will remain closed on August 15 and 16. Officials said the decision was made to protect students and staff from possible danger. The notification cited the risk of landslides and flooding. Residents have been urged to stay cautious during the bad weather.
The closure comes as the region faces severe rain-related disasters. In Muzaffarabad’s Naseerabad area, a cloudburst triggered flash floods. Six members of the same family lost their lives. Rescue teams have reached the site to recover the victims. The incident has left the community in shock.
In Bagh district, heavy rainfall has caused local streams to overflow. The strong currents have flooded low-lying areas and damaged property. Roads in several places have been blocked due to debris. Emergency services are working to clear access routes and help affected residents.
In Samahni, the Bhimber stream has reached high flood levels. Authorities have warned residents to avoid risky crossings. Evacuation plans are in place for nearby villages. Security teams are monitoring water levels around the clock.
Meanwhile, in Gilgit-Baltistan, heavy rain has led to landslides and floods. Ten people have died in separate incidents. Local authorities are coordinating relief efforts and providing shelter to displaced families. Officials fear more damage if the rains continue in the coming days.
