“Hockey can’t improve with talk alone, support is essential: Pakistan Captain”

Lahore: Pakistan hockey team captain Imad Butt has criticised the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), stating that words alone won’t fix hockey – players need proper facilities and support.

Speaking to the media, Imad said: “The team is preparing well for the upcoming Asia Cup, which also serves as a qualifier for the Hockey World Cup, but expressed concern that the PHF has yet to pay players their pending dues.”

He also questioned the security situation in India, saying it “does not feel safe to travel there at the moment,” although the final decision will be made by the federation in consultation with the government.

Imad urged the PHF to honour its commitments and reiterated his request to the Prime Minister to restore departmental teams to provide job security for players.

Referring to a recent leaked audio clip, Imad said: “He stands by his statements and is ready to speak out again if necessary.”

Addressing rumours of a players’ rebellion, Imad clarified that no final decision has been made. “If anything happens, the media will be informed,” he added.
