The 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024 commenced on Tuesday at the Expo Centre, Karachi, bringing together global defence experts, industry leaders, and innovators to showcase advanced and traditional defence technologies.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif inaugurated the event, emphasising the importance of integrating the public and private sectors to boost Pakistan’s defence production and exports. He highlighted the potential for profitable investments and joint ventures in the country’s defence sector, noting that Pakistan’s defence products have gained recognition in international markets.

“Pakistan is exporting high-tech defence products to over 60 countries. However, the volume of exports does not yet match its true potential,” said the minister. He expressed optimism that IDEAS 2024, featuring participation from start-ups, leading engineering and technology universities, and global defence manufacturers, would serve as a milestone for the growth of Pakistan’s defence industry.

The exhibition showcases a wide range of modern and traditional defence equipment, weapon systems, and vehicles, attracting significant interest from global defence experts. Ideas 2024 aim to foster innovation and collaboration within the defence sector.

Khawaja Asif also announced the launch of a new defence ecosystem through the platform of IDEAS, designed to connect academia, industry, and the public and private sectors. This initiative aims to enhance Pakistan’s capabilities in defence production and drive innovation.

The event highlights Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its defence industry and fostering international cooperation, presenting a unique platform for showcasing cutting-edge technologies and forging strategic partnerships. IDEAS 2024 is expected to play a crucial role in the development of the country’s defence sector and its global footprint.
