PESHAWAR: Newly elected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took the oath on Monday and addressed the Assembly. He thanked former CM Ali Amin Gandapur for his leadership and commitment to the party. Afridi revealed that Gandapur had offered his resignation twice, but the Governor raised objections each time. He praised Gandapur for resigning openly on the Assembly floor. Afridi said the smooth transition showed political maturity within the party.

Rejecting claims of being a “selected” leader, Afridi said he earned his post through struggle, not anyone’s recommendation. “I did not come through a parchi,” he declared firmly. He explained that he rose without a political family background. Afridi stressed that his last name isn’t Zardari, Bhutto, or Sharif. He credited his success to protest politics, hard work, and public support.

Afridi promised to work for the poor and reduce inequality in society. He said it was time to end the gap between rich and poor. He added that becoming CM was an honor for the tribal people and all Pakistanis. “I am first a Pakistani, then a Pashtun,” he stated. He emphasized unity, equality, and progress for all citizens.

Highlighting the importance of tribal regions, Afridi pledged development for these long-neglected areas. He said people from tribal districts welcomed his nomination as a win for their community. He assured them of better infrastructure, jobs, and services. Afridi said tribal voices would now be heard at the highest level. His leadership, he claimed, would focus on inclusion and growth.

Afridi also addressed the political crisis facing his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He said party founder Bushra Bibi and many PTI workers remain behind bars. He promised to begin working for their release immediately. Afridi said he took charge during difficult times but felt ready to lead. He vowed to stand firm and serve PTI and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
