The Punjab government has withdrawn its notification for Imran Khan’s jail trial in 12 May 9-related cases, including the GHQ attack. This means the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder will now be tried in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) instead of Adiala Jail. Prosecutor Zaheer Shah informed the court of the government’s updated orders. All future proceedings will now be held within the ATC complex, with Imran Khan attending via video link from prison.

Following this development, the ATC has scheduled the next hearing in the GHQ attack case for September 19. Judge Amjad Ali Shah will preside over the proceedings and has summoned two prosecution witnesses to testify. The court directed Adiala Jail officials to ensure a stable video link for Khan’s virtual appearance. Additionally, the SP Security has been ordered to enhance protection around the ATC building. Extra police personnel will be deployed to prevent any law-and-order issues.

Meanwhile, the court has postponed hearings in the other 11 May 9 cases until October 1, 2025. These cases also involve serious charges, including attacks on military and government facilities. The decision to shift trials out of jail suggests an effort to bring transparency to the proceedings. It may also help address criticism over closed-door trials and limited media access. Authorities aim to ensure smoother legal operations and proper security at the new venue.

In a related development, PTI spokesperson Barrister Saif shared updates on the party founder’s stance on terrorism. In an interview with ARY News, he confirmed there is no military operation underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also stated that Imran Khan has no objection to actions taken against militants. Saif emphasized that the PTI founder supports firm action against terrorism without any compromise.

Barrister Saif reiterated that counter-terrorism is a shared responsibility. He added that Imran Khan has always supported strong security measures across the country. According to him, Khan’s policy is clear: terrorists should not receive relief or protection. These remarks appear to distance PTI from any militant sympathies. The party continues to face legal and political challenges following the events of May 9.
