The Toshakhana Case-II entered its final phase as Imran Khan’s counsel completed cross-examination of the prosecution’s last witness. The hearing took place at Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, appeared before the court. The judge provided both accused with documents containing 29 questions each. Defence lawyer Qausain Faisal Mufti thoroughly cross-examined NAB investigating officer Mohsin Haroon. This marked the completion of cross-examination for all 20 prosecution witnesses.

Next, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi will respond to the charges against them. Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand adjourned the proceedings until Wednesday. The court is now preparing to hear the statements of the accused. This step will bring the case closer to its conclusion. The courtroom remained tense as the accused awaited their turn.

The Toshakhana-II case investigation intensified when the FIA formed a three-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on September 12, 2024. The Supreme Court’s verdict on NAB amendments shifted the case from NAB to FIA jurisdiction. Following this, the accountability court ordered the case record to be transferred to the Special Judge Central. These changes have affected the pace and conduct of the trial significantly.

Earlier, on July 13, NAB re-arrested Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in a new Toshakhana reference. This happened shortly after they received bail in the “Iddat Nikah” case. The arrests added complexity to the ongoing legal battle. Both accused have remained active participants in their defence despite these developments. Their legal team continues to challenge the prosecution’s claims.

Overall, the Toshakhana-II case now stands on the brink of its final stage. The defence’s completion of cross-examinations signals a critical turning point. The next hearing will focus on the accused’s statements. The outcome will likely influence Pakistan’s political and legal landscape. The nation awaits the court’s decision with keen interest.
