Iran Demands World Cup Matches Be Moved from US to Mexico

Tehran: Iran has demanded that its matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 be moved from the United States to Mexico, raising new logistical concerns for tournament organizers.

The president of the Iran Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, said the team has security concerns about traveling to the United States.

He stated that since Donald Trump himself suggested it might not be appropriate for Iran to travel to the US, it could create complications for the team.

According to Mehdi Taj, discussions are ongoing about moving Iran’s matches from the US to Mexico.

Such a move would present logistical challenges for FIFA, which is responsible for organizing the tournament.

British media reports suggest that it is unlikely FIFA will approve Iran’s request.

FIFA has responded by saying it remains in contact with all member nations, including Iran, regarding arrangements for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
